“What can I get you?” the male bartender asks me. The woman barely acknowledges my presence. She’s wearing a red ribbon around her throat – an attached sub. No wonder she’s not paying me any mind. She’s not allowed.
“Macallan 18, neat.”
He nods and turns to pour my drink. I take a seat in one of the empty stools that faces the room and make myself comfortable. He slides the drink across the bar to me. I sip it slowly, allowing the heat of the aged whiskey to warm me from the inside out while I take in my surroundings.
There is a scene on the stage at the far end. A man restrained in cuffs being mercilessly teased- brought to the edge of orgasm before his mistress stops all attention until he is no longer hard and then starts all over again. He begs her for mercy, only to earn himself a swift retaliation with her flogger.
“Who is the domme on stage?” I ask the bartender.
“That’s the Queen of Hearts,” he responds with a laugh. When I raise my brow in question to her name, he explains. “Nearly every submissive she plays with professes their undying love for her by the end of their scene. She refuses to take a permanent submissive. She cuts them off – refusing to play with them again the moment the word love spills from their mouths. Kind of an “Off with his head!” moment a la Alice in Wonderland.”
Returning my attention to the stage, I note that his mistress finally had mercy on him, allowing him to come in her hand. She coos softly to him as he empties himself for her. Another man quickly joins them onstage, releasing the man from his shackles and performing the necessary task of aftercare. This was a punishment scene and she was not his usual dom. Interesting.
I watch as she excuses herself from the couple on stage. My seat is the perfect place that I can see her remove her elbow-length latex gloves and the silver mask that hides the top half of her face – though she turns before I can get a good look. She has a killer body that only adds to the cruelty of her being a domme. I wonder what would drive such a beautiful woman to this kind of lifestyle. Has she been hurt by a former lover? Is that why she won't take a permanent submissive?
I scan the room looking for the woman but don't see her anywhere. It's just as well. I'm not a submissive nor am I interested in playing tonight. I just want to forget the reason I am back in the city. I want to forget the emptiness of the home I'll have to return to tonight. I want to forget the pain that is waiting for me in a place that used to be a safe haven – not just for me, but for my friends, too. How many times had we gathered in my home for my girls to escape their parents? How many times had mom and dad helped me, us, with the trials of being a teenager? I miss them so much that it makes the breath catch in my throat. I toss back the rest of my whiskey, rather than savor the flavor of the expensive liquor.
“Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, he walks into mine.”
I turn at the soft purr I’d recognize anywhere, even if it’s been years since I’ve heard it. I smile as I take in the gorgeousness before me. Long red curls, flawless porcelain skin, deep blue eyes, and curves for days showcased by a black leather bustier, black leather pants, and blood-red stilettos just like the domme that had been on stage. My god, she grew up well.
“Princess.”

 MORE ABOUT QUEEN OF HEARTS

If I am the Queen of Hearts, why am I so lonely? I’ll tell you. It’s because no one can measure up to him. To the one that I gave my heart to when I was a teenager. I gave it to him and never got it back. I thought Levi Stone would be my forever until suddenly, he wasn’t. No one else has ever come close to the impossible standard he set, and I refuse to accept less. I am content, now, with my single life - until the day he shows up in my club.

Is it too much to hope for a second chance at our happily ever after? Or will the dark forces that forced us apart two decades ago return to destroy us again?

MEET AUTHOR J. SILENCE

I’ve always had a wild imagination – making up stories since I was a little girl. I began writing them down in middle school and finally took the steps to publish them for the world in 2014. Since then, I’ve published over 20 novels in 5 different series with another 5 novels currently in progress. When I’m not writing, I am a full-time contract analyst for a university health system in North Carolina where I live with 2 human kids, 3 dogs, and my husband. I love my readers and hope to one day be recognized  as someone’s favorite author while out doing a grocery run on a random day.

Excerpt from Paper Stars Rewritten

I see Preston, a guy I know from one of my classes last year. He spots me heading his way. Sweat breaks out all along my forehead, my palms go clammy, my heart begins to pound out of my chest, a sick feeling swirls in my gut. I feel like I am about to pass out or explode into a million jagged pieces, my body can’t decide which. My vision blurs and I use the back of my hands to wipe them. Am I crying? Am I even breathing? My legs have stopped moving but I feel like I’m flying. It’s a strange sensation. I blink a few times to clear my vision. Each blink is like the click of a camera shutter. My brain catalogs each blink, each click, storing every image away. My ears record every hum, every noise. I swallow thickly, my mouth bone dry. My gaze is frozen. Unmoving. Locked onto the person standing next to Preston. My brain can only process a few words.
Holy fuck. Holy shit. Holy fucking shit.
I must have said the words out loud. The person in front of me turns around. Sage green eyes, pale blond hair tipped with rosy pink, full lips, the most beautiful face I have ever seen. A face that has haunted me for over a year. A face that I have loved for most of my life. She’s here.
 “Elizabeth?”
“Yes?” Her stunning verdant eyes scrutinize me like she’s meeting me for the first time.
Preston looks from me then to her. I’m probably freaking everyone out because I’m crying and almost hyperventilating, but I don’t give a shit. She’s here. Jesus. How could the PI not know she’s right here! My phone keeps ringing nonstop now. Whoever it is can fucking wait a goddamn second.
“Elizabeth, you’re here. How in the hell are you here?”
She looks at me like my question is full of the most confusing words she has ever heard. “I’m sorry, do I know you?”
What the hell? “Baby, it’s me. Ryder.” My hands are shaking so bad with the desire to snatch her into my arms and never let go, but something’s wrong. Something’s not right. My phone rings again.
Her eyes travel over my body and back up to my face.
“Do you know Elizabeth?” Preston asks me, clearly confused about what’s happening.
I ignore him, all my attention focused on Elizabeth. “Where have you been all this time? Why didn’t you contact us? What the hell’s going on?” My voice rises in frustration because she’s acting like I’m a stranger.
“Elizabeth, do you know Ryder?”
She clutches at her chest which is rapidly moving in and out now. “I...I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know. Of course you fucking know me. We’ve known each other since we were nine years old.”
“I’m sorry,” she whispers up at me, eyes wide and panicked. “I don’t remember.”
“Elizabeth, what the fuck is going on?” This time I do reach for her and she stumbles back into Preston who catches her by the shoulders.
“Holy shit! Elizabeth?” Fallon shouts, rushing up from behind me. I completely forgot he came in the student center with me.
Hearing her name spoken once again, Elizabeth turns in the direction of Fallon.
“I’m sorry,” she cries and pushes away from Preston. “I can’t do this.” Frantically clawing at Preston’s grip, she breaks free and takes off like a bat out of hell.
“Elizabeth!” I shout after her which causes several people in the student center to glare at me. I can’t let her leave. I have to stop her. Before I’m able to make two running steps to chase her down, Preston shoves me back hard.
“I don’t think so, man.”
“Move, Preston. Get the hell out of my way.”
“Not moving. She’s clearly afraid of you guys.”
My phone starts ringing. I try to push past Preston again, and again he stops me. Enough of this shit. I raise my fist prepared to knock him out so I can go after Elizabeth, but Fallon jumps in and holds my arm in a death grip. “Stop, Ry.”
I yank my arm down and whirl on Fallon, fury and rage now directed at him. “Not a chance in hell. Don’t try to stop me, Fallon. That was Elizabeth. My Elizabeth! We’ve been searching for her for over a year, Fallon. A whole fucking year! And she’s been here. Jesus!”
“Yes, and clearly she doesn’t want to talk to you.”
“She acts like she doesn’t fucking know me!” I scream back at him.
Someone must have called campus police. Through the front glass of the center, I see two officers dismount from their bikes and walk inside. A girl behind the register points in our direction. Fallon sees them as well. “Ry, let’s go, man. Come on.”
He leads me quickly to the back exit, Preston in tow. We then dart inside the campus library next door and Fallon ushers us up the stairs a few floors before opening the stairwell doors. Making sure that the coast is clear and no one is on the floor or near the stacks, we walk inside and head over to a sofa facing the wall of windows.
I start pacing in the front of the windows like a caged tiger, my emotions all over the place. “I don’t understand. How could the PI not know she was here? Where the hell has she been all this time?”
“You hired a PI? To find Elizabeth?” Preston asks me, absolutely confused.
I need to know exactly what Preston knows. Right now.
“How do you know Elizabeth?” I demand.
“Dude, I just met her like thirty minutes ago.”
“Keep talking.”
“I don’t think so. Look, I’m obviously missing something, and I don’t want to get involved. I’m just going to leave.”
Fallon crosses his arms and leans his hip against the sofa, a picture of pure relaxation and ease. Only his voice and eyes say different. “What you’re going to do is answer the man’s questions. You’re here on scholarship, right? Would be a pity if something happened to that.” Fallon’s tone makes it clear he’s not asking, he’s telling.
Preston’s face blanches. Good. He’s aware of Fallon’s reach around campus, his family’s reach. When Fallon said he was the king on campus, he wasn’t lying. He rules CU just like he did Highland High.
I wait, impatient for Preston to get on with it. “I approached her in the east lot a little while ago. I mean, she’s totally hot, so yeah.” I glare at him. He swallows. “Yeah, so, anyway, she was about to get in her car. The car is what caught my attention first before I saw her. I chatted her up, asked her to grab a bite with me. She said yes. That’s about it. Honest. Can I go now?”
“Did she say anything else?”
“Um, she bought her car in Seattle. That’s all I remember, I swear.”
“Give me your phone, fucker,” Fallon tells Preston, motioning with his hand for him to hand it over immediately. Preston enters his password and hands his phone to Fallon, no questions asked. Fallon sends himself a text from Preston’s phone and gives it back. “I’ve got your number now, and you’ve got mine. You see that girl again, no matter where or when, you contact me. Understand?”
“Yeah, I got it. Can I go now?” Fallon nods and Preston hurries to the exit.
My phone dings. Fallon just forwarded me Preston’s number as well. “So what’re you going to do now, hoss?”
“I need to find my girl.”
“What about Jay and Jules?”
Shit. Jayson’s going to lose his goddamn mind. Julien too. I exhale roughly. “Yeah. Okay.” I get out my phone once again and dial Jay’s number. He answers on the first ring.
“Why haven’t you answered your fucking phone asshole! We’ve been calling you nonstop for fifteen minutes!” he roars at me and then continues to ramble but I’m not listening. There are more important things right now.
“Jay. Shut up and listen.”
“No. You listen. He found her. She’s here, Ry! She’s at CU!”
“I know.”
“What the hell do you mean, you know?”
“I know. That’s why I’m calling. Is Julien there? Put him on.”
“What do you mean you know, Ryder?” Jay yells at me at the same time Julien’s voice says, “I’m here on speaker.”
“I’m with Fallon. Elizabeth was here. Right here. Right in front of me.”
“Where are you? We’re coming now. Keep her there and don’t let her leave.”
“She’s gone. She ran.”
Over the phone, Jayson’s temper explodes with uncontrollable rage.

Excerpt from Mr. Heartbreaker

“What do you mean?” I ask him, staring at Violet.

Violet Raines.

The sexy blonde who has haunted me the last two weeks. I’ve never been obsessed with a woman. Hell, some days I wondered if I really liked any of them – except when I was using them. I can easily admit, however, that I’m obsessed with this chick. There’s just something about her that calls to me.

My brother, Parker, told me once that sometimes you meet a woman that just gets under your skin, and no matter what you do, you can’t get her off your mind. I didn’t take him seriously. Honestly, at the time I was making fun of him because he was hung up on Finn’s little sister and was being too much of a pussy to go after her.

Now I’m starting to wonder if he was right and not just blowing smoke up my ass.

“Christ, you can’t even look away from her to talk to your boys. You need to check yourself, bro.”

“I’m fine,” I lie.

MEET AUTHOR JORDAN MARIE

I'm just a simple small town country girl, haunted by Alpha Men who talk in my head 24 hours a day.

I knew I wanted to write when it became clear I couldn't be happy with just viewing other people's stories. I always wanted to rewrite them.

Like why did Jack have to die? Why couldn't Rose move her butt over? Because that was a huge piece of wood she was on, people.

Happy Endings should be fought for, but they should always happen. Mine might take some curves and twists, but they eventually get there.

Having published over fifty stories, it always feels surreal that this is my life. Hitting USA Today had me crying for days, but nothing is more special than hearing from readers that they loved one of my books.

Excerpt from Mustang Ranch Box Set

The bar falls silent. You could hear a pin drop. Everyone is staring at me… waiting.

My breath catches. My pulse racing so hard, I can feel it pounding against my skin. Time hasn’t dimmed her effect on me. Annabeth looks even better than she did at eighteen. Her curves are more mature, slender yet voluptuous. I drink in the sight of her, desire burning as fierce as my anger. I can’t stand the silence. Even the band has stopped playing.

“Y’all, go about your business.” I hold her gaze. “There’s nothing worth talking about here.” I turn on my heels and walk back out the door. All I wanted was a quick drink and a game of pool before holing up at the ranch to wait out her visit. I never thought for a minute she’d be here—drunk with my friends. Assholes.

Jax comes barreling out the door behind me, shouting for me to wait up, but I’m so fucking mad right now, I don’t even want to look at him. “Mad! Come on! You can’t go on like this forever.”

“Like hell I can’t! She left, without a word. She didn’t give a crap about me, so why would you expect me to be okay with her when she blows into town to visit her parents? Not once has she tried to reach out to me.”

“Mad, there’s something you need to know.”

“No! I don’t want to hear it, Jax. I can’t believe you out of everybody, would welcome her with open arms after what she did. She left all of us behind without so much as a goodbye. You know what that did to me. Why would you do it?”

“I was looking out for you.”

“At the bottom of her tequila shot?” I snap back in anger.

“Mad… she’s back.”
I stop dead in my tracks. My legs paralyzed with rage, confusion… hope. “What the fuck does that mean?”

“She’s back. She’s the new Doc.”

“For how long? A week? A month?”

The voice that haunts my dreams confirms my worst nightmare. “I live here now, Maddox.”

Without a word, she reaches for the bottom of her shirt and pulls it over her head, dropping it to the ground. Fuck me, she’s wearing one of those lace bras I love so much, her nipples almost peeking through. Next, she unbuttons her jeans and shrugs out of them, revealing a matching pair of lace panties. Holy shit, my wife is hot! Like smoking hot, banging body, all-out gorgeous.

“Are you just going to stand there?” Her words are a challenge, and I’m definitely up for it.

“This isn’t going to be a quick fuck bent over a table like the last time we were in here.”

“I rather enjoyed it. You took what you wanted… what you say you crave. If you still feel that way, then show me.”

“Keep talking like that, and I’ll shoot my load before we even get started.” A wry grin creeps to the corners of her lips. There’s the confident little minx I fell in love with. She’s about to unclasp her bra when I stop her.

“Leave it on. You look fucking incredible right now. When that lingerie comes off, I’ll be the one taking it off… with my teeth.”

He narrowed his gaze at me. “You want me to lower the price and give you a job?” He chuckled, and the act of smiling did wonders for his face. He looked pleasant and less like the asshole he really was. “Oh, honey. That’s a tall order.”

I rolled my eyes. “I spent a semester in Paris learning to bake with one of the best pastry chefs in the world. I can handle some fucking chicken fingers.”

Ashton was one of those guys you had to push back or he’d trample all over you.

He crossed his arms, the shirt straining to accommodate his muscles, giving me another peek of that scar. “Six-fifty a month and you got the job.”

I gasped. “What? How do you figure that one?”

Did he just raise the price?

He grinned. “Because if I have to work with you all day, I need a little more cash for my pain and suffering.”

If I can track this person down, I might finally find the closure I need. I mean it’s not really stalking if you only intend to say hi and then leave, right? But nothing about Ashton Knight is as I expected.
The guy who got my Colin’s heart is a foul-mouthed smoker who drinks. A jerk with no compassion… and now I have a new mission. Fix him so he becomes the man who deserves the heart in his chest. Truth be told, though, as much as I love a good project, this one might just ruin me.

Ashton Knight

I’m living through the worst year of my life.
After losing Jenna in a car crash and almost dying myself, I woke up with a new heart, and each beat is a constant reminder that I’m alive while she’s not. Just when I’m ready to sell my failing bar, forget my dad’s an alcoholic, and move away from this place, Millie Byers blows into my bar like a damn tornado. This uptight chick who meddles where she sure as heck is not wanted, riles me like no other. We fight like cats and dogs, but there’s no denying our chemistry.
She rode into my life like a devil—or an angel, the jury is still out—and flipped it upside down. And despite my best intentions of showing her the door, somehow she ends up working for me.
At this stage I’m not sure if I should fire or kiss her… maybe both.
Either way, this woman is going to be the death of me.

What's wrong with a little white lie? When you're in the business Cage Murdock is,
sharing your career isn't something you do right away.
Buuuut it's probably something you should do before you marry someone!
CODE NAME: ROOK
How does he explain this??

Excerpt from Code Name: Rook

It’s been more than twenty-four hours now since we tied the knot. Still, I don’t have a single fucking regret about it. I thought that might come at some point, but, so far, I’m glad we did it. Someone could argue with me until they were blue in the face, but I’ll never believe for a single moment that we weren’t already destined to arrive in the state of holy matrimony at some point.

I’ve been at Jameson since seven-thirty. Jaime thinks I left early to head to the airport for the “car auction” in Georgia. Now that lie I do regret, same as the others, but there’s somewhat of a balm over it in that I had intended to tell her the truth this weekend. It’s just with me going away for several days on a mission, well, I could not drop that bomb on her and leave.

It will, however, be the first thing I do when I return at the end of the week. Or, at least, that’s hopefully when I’ll return. If the mission goes longer, I don’t know what I’ll do.

After a long workout, a quick shower, and a quicker breakfast, which was downing a protein shake, I head down to the second floor. We’ll have a logistical meeting in a few hours with the team that will be joining me in Colombia. It will be Malik, Jackson, and one of the other agents who is fairly new here, Ladd McDermott. We’ll also have the backing of the Colombian army as well.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spy Anna coming out of her office.

“Anna, Anna, Anna,” I call out to get her attention, weaving my way through desks over to her.

“Hey,” she exclaims, a bright smile on her face that says she’s happy to see me.

I look around the second floor, noting most agents are at their desks with heads bowed over laptops, then grab Anna by the elbow to lead her back into her office.

“Hey,” she grumbles, trying to pull away.

I hold her firmly. “Sorry. But I really need to talk. It’s an emergency.”

Once in her office, I release her arm and pull the door shut behind us. Because I’m vibrating a bit with nervous energy, I start pacing back and forth. Her office is so small that I only get two steps before I have to turn around again.

“What’s wrong?” Anna demands.

I jerk from her words, my head snapping her way. She’s not going to like what I’m about to tell her. My gaze moves to the door. Maybe I should just leave.

“Cage,” she snaps, and I can tell she’s lost her patience. “Tell me what it is, and I’ll help you fix it.”

The expression on her face is pinched and worried. I bet she thinks I robbed a bank or something. Better disabuse her of that. “I got married.”

“You what?” she exclaims.

“I got married,” I repeat, a little softer as I drop into a chair.

“Got married,” she says slowly as if she doesn’t quite believe she’s heard me straight. “To whom?”

I roll my eyes. “To Jaime.”

Anna crosses her arms, one eyebrow cocked. “You told her the truth about what you do, right?”

Christ, every time I’m reminded of my lies, it’s like a knife twisting in my chest. I shake my head in response.

“What in the hell were you thinking?” she screeches.

I jump in my seat, hoping never to hear that sound from her again.

She lowers her voice to almost a hushed whisper, bending to get in my face. “You cannot marry a woman unless you are in love with her, and she knows the absolute truth about what you do for a living.”

My grin is lopsided, half well-intentioned, half wry. “Well… I got half right.”

 MORE ABOUT CODE NAME: ROOK

Being a highly skilled operative for a company like Jameson Force Security is exhilarating and important work…until it comes time to date. I like to keep my profession under wraps for a number of reasons. Some of what we do is top secret, most of what we do is dangerous, and more than one woman has tried to latch onto me because she was more enamored with what I do than who Cage Murdock really is. And since I’m more of a ‘here for the night’ than a ‘here for forever’ kind of guy, what’s the harm in a little white lie about my job?

My harmless deceit has never failed me. Until now. Because I met the most amazing woman and did the unthinkable. I married her. And now my beautiful, unsuspecting, probably-going-to-leave-my-sorry-behind-when-she-finds-out-the-truth wife doesn’t know that I’m not a used car salesman like I told her when we met.

As it typically does with lies, the truth is about to come out in a big way when Jaime unwittingly gets herself mixed up with some unsavory characters and I, along with the team at Jameson, have to intervene. Now I need to save my girl and hope I can save my marriage too. Let’s just say I have some serious explaining to do.

Sophia knew she was Falling for Trouble

Excerpt from Falling for Trouble

That first touch of her lips against his was like pouring gasoline on a fire. Sparks shot from her mouth, all the way through her body, and settled in her clit. It was intense and potent, and they hadn’t even moved yet. Abe took the lead, moving his lips on hers, slow and easy. He pushed himself up farther, cupped the other side of her face, tilting her head at the same time, and finally deepened the kiss.

His tongue slipped into her mouth, stroking the very tip of hers. He moaned when she reciprocated. The taste of him was tangy from the whiskey and sweet from the beer. His hands moved from her face to grip her shoulders, pulling her roughly to him so their chests pressed against each other.

“Straddle me, baby.” Abe’s voice was gruff with need. Sophia pulled away, because she knew this wasn’t a good idea. He no longer seemed drunk, but did he really know what the hell they were doing?

“Abe—”

“Straddle me, baby.” His tone brooked no argument. He moved so his back rested against the headboard. Swallowing the very thick lump in her throat, she found her eyes traveling down his chest and stopping on the very large bulge pressed against his jeans. Even in the darkened room, she could see how it strained against his fly, demanding to be free. The junction between her thighs became wet, and she felt her nipples bead.

“Come on, baby, I want to feel you on top of me.” Before she could stop this from going any further, Abe’s hands were on her waist, and he was hauling her on top of him. His mouth slanted on hers and he took her with a searing force. The groan that spilled from him was loud, and she greedily swallowed it. With her legs spread wide over his, her pussy was in direct contact with his raging hard-on.

A gush of arousal left her, and she felt her panties dampen further. Sophia shifted and gasped as the movement caused Abe’s erection to rub against her clit. His zipper caused a flash of discomfort to meld with the pleasure.

“Fuck, baby.” He dragged his lips across her jaw and licked and nipped at her. Her head fell back, and her breath left her. She gripped his wide shoulders and curved her nails into him. A hiss escaped his mouth, but his erection grew impossibly harder beneath her.

“This is a very bad idea, Abe.” Even she could hear that she didn’t mean she wanted him to stop.

“No, baby, I think this is the best idea we’ve had in a long time.”

MORE ABOUT FALLING FOR TROUBLE

She loved him, but they could never be more than friends.

Sophia Kidd and Abe Rochester had been best friends since they were children. With both of their pasts scarred, the only people they could rely on were each other. And so an unbreakable bond was formed, one that tied their lives together, but never in the way she wanted.

Known as “Trouble” in town, Abe wasn’t the guy a girl brought home to meet her parents. He indulged in all the bad things life offered.

But she loved him.

She was in love with him. And the heart wanted what the heart couldn’t have. And so she kept things strictly on the friend level.

But when  a night of partying and tossing back drinks had the world blurring together, she found herself in Abe’s bed.

What should have been an explosive morning after, both of them finally expressing their feelings for the other, turned out to be a nightmare.

Abe had no recollection of the night they just shared.

Humiliation was just the tip of the iceberg, and it didn’t matter how fast or far she ran; Sophia couldn’t escape fate.

And what fate gave her was Abe’s baby.

How could things work out when Abe didn't even remember sleeping with her?

It makes sense that a sports radio host has the rule of not dating any of the players,
especially at the height of her career.

So why does she spend $25,000 at an auction for one night with the most annoying player she's ever met?
Great question! Get your copy to see just how this goes...

Excerpt from Only One Chance

I try not to groan as I walk away from him to the tables. I go through the prizes—a signed puck, a signed jersey, a game in the press box, and four tickets to the All-Star game—and I bid on the All-Star game package, thinking that I could give it away on the air. I’m about to turn around when I bump into a hard chest. Male hands automatically grab my upper arms. “Careful, gorgeous.” I hear his voice and groan, then move my shoulders out of his touch. “What did you bid on?” he asks, walking to the table and going through the sheets. “Oh, look at this.” He picks up a sheet and flashes it my way. “A weekend away in a hidden cabin.” He winks at me. “What do you say? You, me?”

“How secluded is it?” I ask him, and he looks down at the paper. “Like, is there a chance they will find your dead body?” I laugh, and he just shakes his head. He’s about to say something else when I see a blonde walk our way. Her hips swing, and her tits bounce. “Incoming.” I motion with my head in the direction she’s coming from. It’s his turn now to groan. “Don’t lie, you love all this attention,” I say, and I’m about to walk away when the blonde steps in front of me.

“Miller.” She sings his name, walking to him and getting chest to chest with him. “I am so excited about the auction.” I roll my eyes and turn to walk away, but not before hearing her beg him to take her home tonight.

I put my empty glass on a tray and grab another one when I hear Nico's voice fill the arena. “Testing one, two.” I look up and see that a spotlight is on him now. “Testing one, two.”

The chattering stops, and the room goes quiet. “If I can get everyone’s attention.” I look around now and spot Ralph and Candace sitting down at a table in front. I make my way through the crowd and find an empty chair beside Candace. I sit down and look over to see that Manning is sitting next to me, and his wife just glares at me. I smile at her and wave, but she turns her head, and I see Manning roll his lips. “Please help me welcome our captain Manning Stevenson.” The applause starts, and he gets up, and so does his wife, kissing him on the lips as though he won an award or something. He walks up the stairs while he wipes off his lips, and I giggle, which earns me another glare from his wife.

“How drunk are you?” Candace says, leaning into me.

“Not drunk enough,” I say, taking another glass of champagne. “Cheers.” I hold up my glass, and she grabs her own, and we click glasses quietly. I listen half-heartedly to Manning’s speech about why we are here, and my curiosity has me looking around the room to see who else is here that I haven’t seen.

I spot the owner of the station sitting at a table with a couple of the players and their wives. I look around and spot Miller standing with five other men on the side. Our eyes meet again, and this time, he winks. I roll my eyes and look away. What in the hell is wrong with you? This is the second time he’s caught you looking at him. And why are you looking at him? It must be the suit or the champagne. “I think this champagne is not good,” I whisper to Candace, who looks at me and smiles. “Can champagne go bad? Like, can it poison you?”

“No.” She takes a swallow from her glass. “Tastes fine to me.” She puts it down, and a waiter comes over and grabs the two empty glasses and puts two more on the table.

“Am I going to have to carry you into the house?” Ralph asks Candace.

I lean over Candace to whisper to Ralph. “Don’t pretend you don’t like drunk sex.”

“I like drunk sex,” Candace says, not in a whisper, making Ralph just shake his head. I sit up now, looking at the stage as they bring the bachelors on stage. They introduce a couple of the rookies, and then they save Miller for last.

“And it is my greatest pleasure,” Manning says with a smile. “Introducing my assistant captain, or what I like to call him, Mr. GQ,” he says. The applause starts, and a couple of whistles are blown as he walks onto the stage and shakes Manning’s hand and then looks out into the crowd.

“He’s so gross,” I say under my breath, and Candace laughs at me. The bidding starts with the rookie first. The highest bidder is five thousand dollars. The second one goes for the same price, and the third one goes for just a touch more. They all stay under five thousand dollars.

“Now,” Nico says, “it’s time for the last bachelor of the night.” The girls all cheer, and I look over at Candace, who laughs. “We are going to start the bidding off at—”

“Fifty cents.” I hold up my hand, and everyone laughs, even Miller.

“One thousand dollars,” one of the women on the side says, and Candace looks at me.

“Not worth it,” I say, drinking another sip. “So not worth it.” I look into the glass.

“Twelve hundred!” another woman shouts, and I look over at the woman who sits there with a huge smile on her face.

“Fifteen hundred,” another one says.

“Seventeen!” one woman shouts from the back.

“Ohh, this might be a hot ticket item,” Nico says, laughing. Miller just looks down and shakes his head.

“Two thousand,” the first one comes back with.

“Do I have twenty-one hundred?” Nico asks.

Now the girl who sang his name before shouts out, “Five thousand dollars!” The crowd gasps, and Miller just looks at her.

“Ten thousand dollars,” Nico says, pointing at the one who just shout out the highest bid, “Going once, going twice.”

“Twenty-five thousand dollars!” I shout. The words come out of my mouth before I can stop them, shocking everyone, especially me.

MORE ABOUT ONLY ONE CHANCE

Miller

They called me the pretty boy on and off the ice. Hockey’s most eligible bachelor.

When my teammate asked me to donate one date to his charity, I figured why not. Worst case, I’d spend the night with a fan. Best-case scenario, she would be hot. What I wasn’t expecting was for my dream girl to be the highest bidder.

For years, she brushed me off, and now, I finally had a chance to take her out and show her who I really was.

With only one shot at this, I really hoped I didn’t mess it up.

Layla

At the top of my career, I was riding the wave of my sports talk show having the best rating on the radio.

I also made it a rule to never date any sports players.

It was my one rule, and I was sticking to it until I bid on the only man who gets under my skin.

All it takes is one touch, one night, one kiss, and only one chance.

Dree raised her shot glass high above her head to toast the gilded Buddha towering over the nightclub.
She shoved all the air from her lungs through her throat and screamed with her whole body at the people yammering over the techno music and each other, “I’m gonna fuck every man in this bar tonight!”

Yes, you definitely want to get this book!

Excerpt from Rogue

The little blonde said, “And if I have to fuck every guy in this place to change my life, I will!”

She was drunk-adamant and sounded desperate, so he needed to drunk-argue with her until she came around. “You want to get laid at any cost, and yet you’re walking away from a man who wants to take you home tonight.”

“Where?” she demanded, throwing her arms to the sides and nearly stumbling again in her vehemence.

“Right here.” Max wasn’t sure how much longer he could keep this up. “Me, right here.”

“Nuh-uh,” she said, her head hanging and wagging. “You’re a ten, and I’m a six when I have on wedding make-up and it’s a good hair day. And I don’t have any of that. I used a Sharpie marker for mascara.”

Her eyes were misty, as drunk with desire as she was with tequila. “Seriously? A guy like you, and me?”

His whole body was responding to her, and the impulse to fight a man and then take her vibrated in him. His voice had dropped lower when he rumbled, “Let me take you home.”

“And you’re going to fuck me?” she demanded, her voice low like she was exacting a promise from him.

Odd, he’d always thought of Americans as rather Puritanical when talking about sex.

Yet, the woman seemed to want an assurance, so he leaned over and whispered near her ear, his breath puffing her gossamer hair, “Yes, I’m going to fuck you until you scream and can’t move with exhaustion.”

She paused, but then turned away. “No, you won’t.”

He tugged her hand back and caught her in his arms. “I will fuck you in ways you haven’t dreamed of. I’ll be your sure thing for the night if you will just get in the damn car.”

MORE ABOUT ROGUE

Maxence’s brother was trying to kidnap or kill him, and an organized crime thug wanted to cut off Max’s head and feed it to the sharks for entirely different reasons.

So, when a cute little blonde stood up on a barstool in the middle of the Buddha Bar in Paris and drew the attention of the wrong sort of guys, Maxence swooped in for the rescue. Everything about her appealed to him: her sweetness, her giggliness, and especially the fact that she was in trouble.

That last part made her sugar and catnip to Max.
Luckily, he only had five days before he left Paris and Europe for wherever his global charity job was going to send him this time.
Why not spend it with the funny blonde who insisted he lie to her?
Indeed, if she thought everything he said was a lie, he could confess his sins, unburden his soul, and reveal what he thought he never could.
Five days with her sounded like Heaven, if he could just convince her to stop throwing him out of her hotel room.
          ***
My life has become a sad country music song, but instead of heading south, I went to Paris.
I was a good girl who had nothing left to lose, literally. My boyfriend had stolen everything.
Everything except a non-refundable plane ticket to Paris, which was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime where that deadbeat was going to propose at the top of the Eiffel Tower.
So, I got on the plane without him.

After all that, it was understandable that when I started drinking at the Buddha Bar, things got a little out of hand.
Luckily, a man intervened. He was so ripped that I could see every thick muscle of his abs, obliques, chest, and arms through the tight tee shirt he was wearing. He towered over the guys who were bothering me, and they backed off.
I took him back to my hotel because I was full of drunken, bad decisions that night.
The last thing I needed was a man who wanted to save me when I was trying to do all the wrong things.
