Even with her night from hell at the office and passing out on the couch, she’d managed to get a shower, dry the floor, and run a brush through her hair before she left the house. She was winning at life right now, lateness notwithstanding. With a cup of coffee in her other hand, she maneuvered the front door open and speed-walked to the classroom where the Sunday Sketch took place. She’d been to one when she first came to LA, but hadn’t been back since then.
She cringed as the door bounced off the wall with a loud bang, as she flung the classroom door open with a little more force than intended. Everyone turned from their easels to stare at whoever attempted to hulk their way into the class. Ducking her head, she made her way to an empty easel, then set her coffee down, grabbed the elastic off her wrist, and pulled her hair up into a ponytail.
The instructor was just giving the introductions. She was glad she wasn’t too late, even though many of the people were already set up and ready to sketch the model. Grabbing her pencil bag from her purse, she took out her favorite pencil and stuck it in her mouth as she flipped open her sketch pad to a clean sheet and waited for their model for today to get ready. He was turned with his back to her, speaking to the instructor. He stepped up onto the center of the small raised platform in front of the class. He dropped the robe and turned to face her.
The pencil dropped out of her mouth, falling to the floor with a clatter as she came face to face, abs and well—hello there!—with the pissed off office guy from the bar. Holy shit, this guy was ripped!
He looked as shocked as she did, his cheeks turning a bright red as he glanced away from her. She bent to pick up her pencil and drank him in from head to toe while sharpening her newly broken pencil point. Sweet mother of pearl, this man was completely built. His tanned skin was taut over his rippling muscles. He wasn’t bulky, but defined. And holy definition, Batman, those abs! His strong thighs were carved in impressive lines and that ‘V’ that led from his abs to his … package almost had her drooling. Too bad he was a ridiculous jerk. Yes, she’d barged into his office without permission and had drawn all over stuff on his desk, but still, there was no reason for him to lose it like that. Well, maybe there was a small reason.
He moved into position, crouched down with one elbow placed on his knee, and froze in place. All the students could begin their work, as he would be still throughout the entire session, moving only to turn slightly and to take a five-minute break to relieve what had to be some stiff muscles about halfway through. Although he was a jerk, she could appreciate his form and caught herself staring more than a couple of times rather than sketching.
Breaking into her line of vision, the instructor stared her down. She jumped at the break in her intense laser stare.
“Do we have a problem?” That snapped her out of her trance and she shook her head.
“No problem, I was only trying to get settled. Sorry, I was late. I’ll get right to it,” she said, flustered as she picked up her favorite pencil, placed it back in her mouth, and tucked her second favorite behind her ear. Rolling her shoulders, she closed her eyes and shook out her hands. When she opened her eyes, she didn’t see Mr. Ripped Bar Man, but every line, shade, and angle of his body. Picking up her pencil, she went to work.
